Anyone who THINKS they may be cut out to train for a multi-disciplined event would join this group. As we grow, you will have more and more resource people to help you. Check out this website for newbies as well http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/gear/index.asp?catid=15
Most people can run and bike but they don't like the swim part. We have good news...there are many triathlons that involve pool swims rather than open water swims. My wife and I say...go for it! If you can swim 50 yards, then you can learn to swim 200yards.Many of the smaller beginner triathlons have fat-tire categories so you don't have to have a sophisicated road or race bike. IF YOU WANT TO TRI....this is the group to be in. We @ Northshore Tri-Club etc. welcome everyone. There is also the opportunity to join a nationwide mens' ministry by going to the website http://www.multisportministries.com/ (for males only)or http://www.fcaendurance.org/ (males and females)

Hi. I just joined this site and I am in the process of doing my first sprint triathlon on March 9th. Are there training groups for new tri folks? I am a member at Stone Creek and I have been training to swim there. I know it will be different swimming open water and want to know if folks are training open water already.

Hey Sarah- I saw your comment. I was very reluctant when I first started as well. I highly suggest you do the July 28th Rocketchix (all women/Baton Rouge) race as your first triathlon. There's still enough time to train, it's close in proximity and the swim is in an indoor pool. It's a true sprint triathlon…350 mtr swim/ 12 mi bike/2 mi run. Being your first tri, this is a great starting block.I have a group of ladies I train with who do it each yr.I'm definitely doing it! It's a lot of fun and a good stepping stone. You can ride either fat -tire or road bike as they have division for both. If you need help with swim training, let me know! I'm in the process of joing the coaching staff at PAC and we have a friendly, fun Masters program offered at different times of the week, etc

I have really been thinking about doing a triathalon.  I haven't started training at all, and I am still kind of terrified of the open water swim, but I am ready to start conquering my fears.  If anyone has any getting started advice, I would love to hear it!

I've been out of the picture for a few weeks, but I'm back on track to get serious with more training. I think our tri-newbie group has the most potential and I'm happy to get more involved. I can meet for early morning rides, though I ride a fat-tire and will proably be way behind the pack, but I'm ok with that. I like the challenge of trying to keep road bikes in my sight.
